HIV/AIDS Work
In many of the countries that SIM works in, HIV/AIDS is impacting all aspects of life. Whether the work be teaching, agriculture or church planting, AIDS is impacting how this work is carried out. This is especially so in Africa where in some countries the incidence of HIV/AIDS is 35% of the population. The prevalence of HIV/AIDS is starting to impact many parts of Asia and South America as well. SIM has specific ministries for people wanting to work in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention or with people afflicted with HIV/AIDS.

Community Development and Relief
Do you feel challenged to do something when you see news reports and documentaries about poverty, exploitation and famine in developing countries? Working in community development and relief may be the way in which you can practically respond. For SIM, the ultimate evidence of development is seeing people reconciled to God – for Christians living in a broken world, development also means meeting the physical needs of suffering or disadvantaged people in the name of Christ.
In times of emergency, SIM missionaries seek to be at the forefront of relief efforts with food, shelter and emergency aid. When the crisis has passed, SIM missionaries provide agriculture and livestock as well as small business training and assistance for communities working toward long-term stability.

Health Care
SIM is involved with several general hospitals and clinics. As primary care and preventative measures become more critical, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals train village workers in community-based health care — including awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
