Childrens Uplift Programme

The Children’s Uplift Programme (‘CUP’) is part of SIM’s work in Mirpur, Bangladesh. This is an extremely poor country with 50% of its population living in poverty. CUP is working with street children to provide a safe place for those children living and working on the streets, especially young girls.

CUPCUP is working in the following ways:

  • Prevention – offering alternative to girls entering the sex industry.
  • Rehabilitation - providing support for girls to leave these prostitution.
  • Breaking the Cycle - providing support for the mothers of these girls as many of the homeless children live with their mothers who are often sex workers.
  • Empowerment - working in partnership with the girls and their mothers to offer them opportunities to improve their own lives.
  • Belonging - CUP is establishing a centre that will give the girls a safe place during the day and provide services for their emotional, physical, educational and spiritual needs.

The Children’s Uplift Progamme is aiming to reach and provide support for 260 children and their families. CUP is working very closely with the community, getting to know its local leaders and networking with local services to ensure a successful
impact. It is also essential that believers are involved in the social outreach so CUP has been meeting with various believing groups around the Mirpur area and is discussing how they can be involved in the work.
The Children’s Uplift Programme ID # 98336 needs US$80,000 over the next four years to ensure its running.
